The Biltong / Beef Jerky cutter is an old concept to cut biltong or beef jerky faster & safer without the use of knifes or pocket knifes easy to use and useful for slicing all types of Biltong as it will cut with ease making the job easier and faster if you do't have the luxury of a electric slicer. The design have a modern look to it and are a perfect gift. This model was design and cut on my cnc router machine using a 6 mm cutting tool but can be made with hand tools as well.
The design of the Biltong / Beef Jerky Caver
I used Red Oak hard wood to make one for a friend from South Africa how likes his Biltong. The design of the Biltong / Beef Jerky Caver or slicer was done on Inventor and exported to Aspire 3,5 software from Vectric for cnc routing using a 6 mm end mill cutter, Engraving was done with a v-groove router bit,
After removing the individual parts I used a bench router to bevel the corners, sand it down and coat with marine varnish. This design is using a 2" plane blade, bolts and nuts (See PDF PLan ) for bill of materials just assemble and it's ready to do some serious cutting/carving.

Thanks for the design; as you can see my first one was as per your drawings which I converted to vectors and then machined on my CNC router. The cost of the plane irons were too high and I started looking around for a substitute blade and I found a cleaver with a 12mm hole for a lot less than a plane iron, and as you can see it came out a treat.
The base and uprights are as per your design, the uprights slightly shorter so that I could use 19mm material for the cutting surface. For the base I use 30 mm material. I am a retiree and I keep myself in pin money with these cutters as they are very popular with the local South African community as presents as I engrave each persons’ name on the base. Cheers |
